DOT Uganda is pleased to announce that Alex Muwonge, Intern Support Manager was among the selected 1,000 Tony Elumelu Entrepreneurs for TEEP2016. He shares how this funding will help provide employment opportunities to the youth whilst equipping them with employability skills.
The Tony Elumelu Foundation Entrepreneurship Programme (TEEP) is the flagship entrepreneurship programme of the Tony Elumelu Foundation, founded by the entrepreneur, respected investor and philanthropist Tony O. Elumelu. The programme will support selected Tony Elumelu Entrepreneurs through the 7 Pillars of TEEP, a framework that includes mentorship, online and live learning, as well as access to information, networking and seed capital to a tune of 5000USD.
With this funding, Alex will launch his idea of creating jobs for youth through ICT. Below he explains how this dream will be achieved.
“We shall recruit fresh university graduates from ICT and Art backgrounds as interns and give them on job training skills for one (1) year so that they can work on real life digital solutions for non-profits and business startups. Services for website design and development, social media marketing and management, graphic design solutions and photography will be offered. The Interns will then market and interest potential clients, and work with mentors on finding the relevant solutions for the clients. Through this, they will receive real work experience. Skills gained will help them start their own ICT related ventures or get alternative work experiences after the 1year contract. The best interns shall be retained as full-time employees. Non-profits and business startups will get professional work done for them that is appealing to their target audience at a relatively affordable price.”
We at DOT wish him the very best in his endeavors.
